Compare 22 cardboard box makers & suppliers in Japan — small-lot and made-to-order friendly

Updated July 10, 2026All entries verified against each company's own website.

Where you buy shipping boxes decides more than unit price — it sets your inventory risk and your lead times. This page compares 22 Japanese cardboard makers and converters whose own sites confirm small-lot or made-to-order support, across 8 regions, by minimum lot, published lead times, and printing. It also covers 9 packaging wholesalers for bundle purchases and reference prices for courier-60 boxes, so a first-time buyer can go from shortlist to quote requests on this one page.

How to choose a cardboard supplier — 4 criteria

1. Minimum lot and the quantity curve

Unit prices swing hard with quantity: one published example prices the same ad-printed 60-size box at ¥26.7 per box at 3,040 pcs but ¥112.2 at 20 pcs. Decide how many boxes one order should carry — from your monthly shipments — before comparing prices at that quantity. One-box makers are great for trials and emergency top-ups, but steady volume belongs in larger lots.

2. Lead times and how you hold stock

Makers that publish concrete speed — "same-day shipping", "same-day dispatch by 1 p.m." — are valuable as emergency routes when stock runs out. First-time custom orders always take longer than repeats (published examples range from 3 business days for repeat items to 1–2 weeks for delivery). A safe setup: generous lead times on regular orders, plus one fast maker on standby.

3. Printing and converting range

Logo printing, full-color print, die-cutting, dividers — how much a maker converts in-house differs widely. Few companies print on small runs, so if branded packaging matters, filter for printing support from the start. Special needs (water-repellent board, oversize up to 3m) narrow the field by themselves.

4. Region, freight, and delivery

Boxes are bulky, so distance shows up in freight and lead time. Anchor on makers in the same region as your warehouse, then add wide-coverage companies (multiple offices, nationwide delivery) for comparison. This page covers 8 regions from Hokkaido to Kyushu — jump from the region headings below.

Packaging wholesalers: 9 companies for bundle buying

Courier box sizes at a glance (60 / 80 / 100 / 120)

In Japan, "size 60" means the three sides (width + depth + height) total 60cm or less — the tier couriers use for freight. Fix your size tier first; it anchors both your shipping cost and which maker fits.

Cardboard size chart: courier sizes 60, 80, 100, and 120 shown as boxes, where each size is the total of width, depth, and height in centimeters, with typical uses from accessories and books up to bulk shipments
Three-side totals are the courier freight tiers — confirm exact inner/outer dimensions with each maker when quoting.

Reference prices: what a courier-60 box costs

Reference (published list prices, July 10, 2026): plain courier-60 boxes list from about ¥26.6–¥34.3 each at volume (ex-tax), and roughly ¥38.5–¥82.2 at smaller quantities. Ad-printed 60-size boxes range from ¥26.7 each at 3,040 pcs to ¥112.2 at 20 pcs — the same box, over 4x apart on quantity alone. These are catalog reference values, not quotes; custom specs and printing are exactly what competitive RFQs are for.

How a competitive RFQ (aimitsu) works

Fix one set of conditions, send it to several makers, and compare the answers on one sheet. The only hard part is the legwork — which Cargo does for free.

RFQ flow diagram in four steps: enter your conditions (use, size, quantity, deadline), request quotes from several makers at once, compare the replies on unit price, lead time and terms, then place the order with the maker you choose
Cargo handles steps 2–3 (sending requests, collecting replies, building the comparison) for free.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a cardboard box cost per unit?

As a reference for courier-60 size (W+D+H within 60cm): published prices on July 10, 2026 showed plain boxes from about ¥27–¥35 at volume (and roughly ¥38–¥82 at smaller quantities), while ad-printed 60-size boxes ranged from ¥26.7 at 3,040 pcs to ¥112.2 at 20 pcs. Unit price depends heavily on quantity — compare quotes at your actual order size.

Which makers accept orders from one sheet or one box?

Yes. On this list, Arimura Shiko and Kaneto Akiho state production from one sheet, and Igarashi Danboru, Kamada Danboru, Taiyo Shiki, and Wakaho Shiki from one box. See the dedicated small-lot comparison page for all makers with explicit small-lot support.

How long does delivery take?

Published examples on this list include same-day shipping at the fastest (Arimura Shiko), same-day dispatch for orders by 1 p.m. (Igarashi Danboru), same-day production and next-day dispatch at the fastest (Taiyo Shiki), 3 business days for repeat items (Kamada Danboru), and 1–2 weeks for delivery (Takada Shiki). First-time custom orders normally take longer than repeats because specs and tooling must be settled — always confirm the date on your quote.

What are the steps for a made-to-order (custom) box?

The usual flow: fix your conditions (dimensions, shape, board grade, quantity, printing), request quotes, optionally make a prototype, then run production. Some makers on this list state prototype support (e.g. Inaba Shiki), and several offer online estimators (Igarashi Danboru, Mikkabi Shiko, Kaneto Akiho) that price a spec instantly.

How do I run an aimitsu (competitive RFQ) properly?

Send the same conditions — dimensions, board grade, quantity, deadline, printing — to several makers at once, then compare unit price, lead time, and minimum lot on one sheet. Mixing conditions between vendors makes quotes incomparable. Cargo does this legwork for free: enter your conditions once and it requests and collects quotes from matching makers.

Should I buy from a maker or a wholesaler?

If you mainly need boxes — especially custom ones — go factory-direct to a maker. If you want boxes, tape, cushioning, and bags in one small order, a packaging wholesaler can quote the whole bundle at once. This page lists both: 22 makers and 9 wholesalers.
